Aloe speciosa is one of my all time favorite aloes! “speciosa” means showy in Latin and it clearly refers to its crazy beautiful flowers! 😍 This species has a wide distribution, from Swellendam in the Western Cape to the Kei River in the Eastern Cape. The flowers are rich in nectar, attracting bees, butterflies, ants and sunbirds, their main pollinators. The fruiting capsules open during summer and the winged seeds are dispersed by wind. The fruiting capsules are often parasitized and the seed destroyed.
