This Stapelia is the largest in the genus with flowers ranging from 10cm-40cm (4inch – 15inch) in diameter. Known globally as African starfish flowers, and locally as carrion flowers, the hairs, colouration and surface mimic decaying animal matter and attract mostly flies, which act as pollinators.
