Probably the best known protea worldwide, and in South Africa, honoured as the national flower...The glorious King Protea.
The flowers in the centre of the flowerhead open over a fairly long period of time and are visited by Scarab Beetles, Protea Beetles and many other insects, including bees, as well as birds. The birds are attracted to the nectar as well as the insects visiting the flowers.
